“Polo, the game of royals, will come to the masses this December. Much on the lines Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pro Kabaddi League, Bhavnagar-based industrialist Chirag Parekh is all set to launch the world’s first Pro Polo League (PPL)” Parekh, the promoter of Acrysil and a polo patrol himself, has roped in a renowned London-based multinational professional ser vices firm for branding and promoting the polo league.
“The PPL will be officially launched in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in December. It would be a grand launch and we are soon signing a contract with the UK-based multinational firm for PPL branding of this first all India level,” Parekh told TOI.
The first PPL tournament will be played in March next year, said Parekh, whose private polo team `Carysil Cowboys’ has won seven prestigious national tournaments in the last six years. The six teams and its players will be auctioned in a very professional manner, he said. “The whole idea of PPL is to bring this game of kings to masses. The sport has already gained immense popularity in Bhavnagar, which was evident from the thousands of spectators who turned up to watch the matches at our ground,” said Parekh.
The PPL matches will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in March and April next year. The likely centres for the matches are Mumbai, Jaipur, New Delhi and Gujarat. This will be an annual event and more teams will be added after seeing the response. “The league will be played with new format of the game and detailed of the league and its norms will be announced soon” Parekh added.
